Inspired by the Past

Westmoore Pottery is a small company
that has been in business since 1977,
owned by potters David and Mary Farrell.
We at Westmoore Pottery have an interest in preserving a piece of our past,
and this is reflected in the wares we sell --

historical pottery,
historical hand-blown glassware,
and
historical pewter .

Our small book section includes texts on historical pottery and on historical cookery.

All our pottery is made on the premises here in the Westmoore Community,
halfway between the small towns of Seagrove and Robbins, in North Carolina.
Our ware is made in the old traditions, with the look and feel of pottery
of the 17th, 18th, and early 19th centuries,
up to around 1850.
A special interest of ours is pottery which was used in the early days of North Carolina;
this includes pottery made in England, Germany, New England, Pennsylvania,
and of course pottery made
in the central area of North Carolina.

We produce several types of pottery:
REDWARE, both plain and decorated
SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE, and
GREEN GLAZED WARES.
All of our pottery is made to be used, and we use absolutely no lead in our glazes.

Our work has been used by over 100 museums as furnishings for historic buildings and in programs.
We have also supplied pottery and glass
for a number of historically based films.
Westmoore's pottery can be found in several museum collections,
and is enjoyed by many private individuals as well.

We like being a small business and intend to stay small.
Potters David and Mary Farrell do everything, from making the pots,
to waiting on customers in our retail store, to mopping the floors!
It gives us great joy to be able to present to the American public a product
that still has the heart, soul, and pride of the makers behind it.

News and Upcoming Events

As many of you know, summer can be very hot and humid here in North Carolina. We don't have air conditioning in our shop, so we don't plan any special events through the summer. Our next event will be an away event:

HISTORIC TRADE FAIRE AT FORT DOBBS

Fort Dobbs in Statesville, North Carolina
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Westmoore potter David Farrell -- possibly accompanied by our younger son Erik --
will attend this Trade Faire at the French and Indian War era Fort Dobbs, in Statesville, NC.
He will bring our handmade wooden hand cart, filled with pottery appropriate to the middle of the 18th century.

Mary will remain at Westmoore Pottery and keep the shop open for regular hours.
